Sick Baby Means Tired Momma

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 8:15 pm

My 22 mo. old came down with a cough on Fri. but was full of his usual energy.  But by Saturday afternoon he was a mess.  He was listless, breathing rapidly, and feverish.  I was really scared, so I called my uncle who’s a pediatrician.  He asked me a bunch of questions, and let me know that he wasn’t concerned about the cough or the fever because that’s the bodies natural way of fighting viruses, however he was concerned about his breathing.  He asked me if my son was breathing hard out of his nose or his chest.  I told him it was from his nose.  Since it was out of his nose, he said that likely meant he was congested versus pneumonia.  I was relieved!  I kept a close watch on him, woke up every minute he coughed, and checked on him when he was sleeping.  Thankfully he made it throught the night with little spike in fever, but he still felt awful and he slept on me all afternoon.  I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before, my client is a baby doctor and she lives right down the street!  In ten minutes she came to my house and checked him out.  She said his lunges were clear but he had the flu.  Thank God!

Last night he was up every two hours like an infant.  The only way my husband and I could get him to sleep was to let him rest on our chests.  Tonight,  he’s feeling a lot better, he’s even played with his brother, but he’s already used to sleeping on us!  It’s been only 1/2 hour and he’s awake!  This is hard, but I’m going to let him cry a little…otherwise I’m going to be an irritable zombie!

Poll Results- What do You miss the Most Since Baby?

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 3:42 pm

I did a poll on my facebook group “Ahhhhhhh for New Moms” http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385934019 to find out what they missed the most after baby.  The number one answer…drum roll please… was “time to self”, close behind was “sleep”, and the third most popular vote was “time with husband”.  We give up a lot when we have children, but the reward at least in my eyes, makes it all worth it.  What do you miss the most since baby?

Traveling with Little Ones

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 3:44 pm

Gosh it’s been a while since I’ve written in my “daily blog”!  I’ve been busy visiting family and taking a little down time.  I found that traveling 6 hours via car with two young children (20 mo. and 4.5 yrs) works quite well if you have dvd players.  My husband bought the kind that has one plug (into the lighter) with two separate screens.  That way my oldest could watch his shows w/ a headset and the baby could watch his show with volume only.  Surprisingly the dvd’s kept them entertained for the most part and my husband and I actually got to have a few conversations free of interruptions!

Pregnancy- Don’t Put on Unnecessary Weight, Stop Eating for Two

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 3:10 pm

So many pregnant women believe that they need to drastically change their eating habits in order to create a healthy baby.  This just isn’t so…unless you want to gain a bunch of unnecessary weight that is hard to lose!  It’s really quite simple.  Eat when you feel hungry.  Just chose foods that will nourish your body like whole grain pastas and breads, fruit, veggies, lowfat cheeses, yogurt, and nuts.  As long as you listen to your body you won’t put on unwanted pounds…and you’ll thank yourself for that after you have your baby!

Postpartum Weight Loss- “I’ll exercise…later”

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 9:25 pm

With all good intentions many of us plan to exercise, but as evening rolls around we’re too tired.  Therefore I recommend exercising in the morning and or on lunch breaks.  In the morning you’ll have more energy and it will get you in the groove for the rest of the day.  When you exercise you’ll be more likely to eat healthier too.  So don’t wait to exercise “later” because that will turn into the next day, or the next, or the next….

Pregnancy- The Comments When You’re Pregnant

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 1:05 pm

Ever notice that when you’re pregnant suddenly everyone has the right to make comments about EVERYTHING?  Nothing seems to be off limits.  Strangers will comment on what you’re eating, drinking, the size of your belly, and how you plan to deliver.  When I was pregnant with our second child I realized that people used my pregnancy as an opportunity to talk about themselves.  I learned to have selective hearing.  I’d tune out the negative stories and listen to the positive ones.  Now I can look back and say to you pregnant ladies to enjoy the attention because after you have your baby it all goes to your baby!  Oops…there I go sharing my “story”! :)

Postpartum Weight Loss- Don’t Eat Just Because….

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 2:16 pm

Ever gone to a party and eat a whole plate of food even though you weren’t even hungry?  If you want to lose weight you have to get comfortable with listening to your body, and passing on food if you’re not hungry.  Eating a whole plate of food can add up to an additional 1,000 calories!  So ask yourself these three questions to find out if you’re truly hungry.  “Is my stomach rumbling? Does my stomach feel empty?  Do I feel low on energy or irritable?”  If your answer is “no” then pass on the food and have a glass of water.  There’s no reason to pack on the pounds just because everyone else is eating.  You’ll thank yourself later!  The more you listen to your body and eat when you’re hungry the quicker you’ll lose weight…without ever depriving yourself!

Pregnancy- Craving Peanut Butter?

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 2:04 pm

When I was pregnant with my first son I craved peanut butter.  I ate a serving at least once a day.  When my son was of age to eat peanut butter he loved it!  I was telling my mother about it and she said when she was pregnant with me she craved peanut butter, but never cared for it prior.  Guess what?  When I was of age to eat peanut butter I loved it!  It shows that if we listen to our bodies and eat healthy, we will eat just what we need to make our babies happy! :)

Postpartum Weight Loss- Diet Soda Can Make You Fat

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 2:16 pm

If you want to lose weight I highly recommend cutting back on diet soda.  Research has shown that diet soda “tricks” the thirst mechanism so we think we’re hungry when we’re actually thirsty.  By eating when we’re thristy vs. hungry you’ll put on weight.  In addition to not adequately hydrating the body, diet soda is filled with artificial and cancer causing ingredients.  Conclusion: Give up the diet soda and lose weight!  For example:  I had a client who couldn’t lose the last 5 lbs..  After annalizing her food journal, I had her cut out her daily diet soda and replace it with water.  In just 1 1/2 weeks the last 5lbs…GONE!

Pregnancy- Afraid to Exercise

Filed under: Fit by Sara — admin @ 4:21 pm

Are you newly pregnant and afraid to exercise?  If you are, you’re not alone.  However, if you’ve had the thumbs up from your doctor it’s a good time to get started…yes, even if you’ve never exercised before.  Exercise will get your body in good condition and will help to stabalize your mood.  Prenatal yoga is highly recommended to prepare you for the birth of your baby.  A good instructor will teach you stretches that will ease discomforts caused by pregnancy, as well as guide you with breathing exercises that you’ll remember when you give birth.  Another benefit to exercising is it will help to keep you at a good weight so you’ll get back to your pregnancy form quicker.
